It is a Journey

I had the good fortune to spend a day with people who are entering into the Third Chapter of life. (Retirement is a weak and misleading term I prefer to avoid whenever possible.)  These people all came to my workshop to gain some insight on how to proceed.  Every single person there, including me, is on a journey into at new territory.

Journeys always begin with some wonderment and maybe a little fear.  Am I going the right direction?  What if I get lost?  Am I clear about the destination? Do I have enough money for the trip? What if I don’t like where I am going when I get there?  Sounds like the questions of am 18 year old going off to college.

The best news of all is that this is exciting! Unless we just plan to live on the couch in front of the TV, we have decisions to make at each crossroads.  The Third Chapter is being revealed as we go.  There are fewer maps and role models than we had in earlier stages.  We get to draw our own map which is really based on where our heart leads us.  I believe the key is listening to our own voice of wisdom that lives in our hearts.
